Trepat Amphorae ‘18, Metamorphika, Spain
The berries for this deep purple wine come from 2 high elevation plots of bush vines around 60 years of age. Joan has played with ripeness & maturity with this vintage, harvesting later than perhaps ‘usual’ in October. The resulting wine is mature, ripe & complex with billowing aromas of violet, plum, blueberry & a hint of chocolate. After hand harvest & partial de-stemming the grapes are macerated for 3 months in 3000 litre amphora before pressing. After a further 6 months ageing in amphora the vibrant juice is bottled, retaining just the right amount of acidity & elegance to make you weep. Do not rush this wine…give her a good decant to open her up or pour, sip, ponder & muse over an evening. Oh and light a fire. She’s great with a fire.
