Orange ‘19, Ancre hill, Wales


Ancre Hill is a 12 hectare estate in Monmouthshire working organically & biodynamically to produce unique, terroir driven wines on ancient mudstone & sandstone soils- no mean feat in the cool Welsh climate! The quantities produced of this cuvee are so damn limited it’s a real bun-fight to get an annual allocation so I sharpened my elbows in readiness but Bacchus, the wine god, smiled upon me & so I pass the blessing along to you…! This intense, savoury 9% orange wine made from Albarino grapes  is macerated on skins for 30-50 days then aged on the lees for 10 months in a mixture of oak and stainless steel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered and without sulphur, she’s fresh & herbal with underlying fruity notes of burnt orange, apricot and quince. She’s sure rare & super natural- an absolute blinder of an orange!
