Little Red Riding Wolf ‘19, Staffelter Hof, Germany

With a winery operation dating back nearly 1200 years, the latest winemaker at the helm of this legacy is Jan Klein. In ’14 he introduced sulphite free production to the organic farm & pioneered a cool, zero additions approach. 1 half of the grapes came from the Paradies vineyard on limestone & a touch of clay, the other half came from the Letterlay vineyard on steeper clay slopes. After de-stemming & fermentation in stainless steel vats the berries staying on the skins for around 4 weeks before pressing into a 1k litre fuder (oak barrel) for 12 months ageing. She’s an intriguing , spicy blend with a hint of woodiness & oodles of black & red fruit. Light on her feet she leaves a lush fresh finish, making you reflexively sip for more…
