Comadellops Vi Violeta ‘18, Costa D’Or Terroirs Mediterrani, Spain


This baby’s a beautiful brambly Catalan red blend of indigenous varieties from 70-90 year old bush vines at high elevation. There’s a whopping clue on the label as to the grapes transformation vessel as Joan smashes it out of the ball-park with another awesome amphora banger. The grapes are partially de-stemmed with 30% left as whole bunches then placed in amphora for fermentation and maceration for 3 months before pressing. After ageing for 7 months in amphora and demi-muid (600l used oak barrels) the wine presents as a juicy fruit bomb full of blackberries, cassis and a hint of coconut.
